Y’all know how addicted to matte lipsticks I am. It’s actually one of my life’s goals to purchase/try out at least one matte lipstick from every single brand out in the beauty market today. And of course, as an extension to that goal is to figure out which one’s the best for me.
But aside from the NARS Audacious Lipsticks, there’s another non-matte lipstick line that really grew on me: the ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks.
When this was first released about 2 or 3 years ago (if I’m not mistaken), I immediately got my hands on one just for the heck of it and because it’s ColourPop and they’re bound to bring us some amazing lip products and I’m not one to not dive into that.
I immediately fell in love with that first Ultra Satin Liquid Lip that I got two more after (Spritz and Toolips). Those two I didn’t love as much but mainly because of the shade and not by anything else.
So I made a mental note to purchase more but it wasn’t until two weeks ago when I finally did. (Well, actually, the girlfriend bought these for me because she’s an adorable creature who fully supports my addiction to love for lipsticks.)

I wasn’t actually planning on getting Frick N’ Frack (rosy terracotta), but a lot of the other shades that I wanted were no longer available so I decided to just go ahead and repurchase this shade. This was actually the first Satin Liquid Lip that I’ve tried from ColourPop and yes, I love it so much that I’ve almost used the entire tube up (to the point where it has already gone bad and smelly) which makes this second tube justifiable.
Thankfully, it still has the same formula that I know and love—non-sticky, glides on easily and smoothly, seriously pigmented in just a swipe, and of course, long-lasting.
Unfortunately for the rest of the shades that I got, these weren’t all the case.
Strip (warm beige) was the first one (out of the four) that I tried and I was surprised and disappointed that it was so goddamn tacky, it almost felt like I was wearing a lip gloss.
The shade was too pretty, though, so I was willing to overlook the stickiness (definitely a first for me), hoping that it would go away once I start going about my day but fuck was I wrong!
Even after more than 12 hours—without any retouching—I still had to deal with the insanely annoying lip-gloss-like feeling on my lips. Yikes!

Sadly, it was the exact same case with Strut (cool-toned taupe).
Thankfully, I didn’t like Strut as much as Strip as the former made me look dead on the outside (I’m already dead on the inside, thank you very much) and nobody wants to look like a cast from The Walking Dead (unless you actually do and/or it’s Halloween—which it will be in a few days). So I wasn’t as upset.
I was hoping that Baracuda (warm deepened rose) would be the saving grace and make it not seem like the entire haul was just a waste but… LOL, you guessed it. The same damn thing!
My only consolation with Baracuda is that it’s not as tacky as the other two but at the end of the day, it’s still the same fucked up situation and I just cannot be on board with that.
The three were all still smooth, pigmented, and long-lasting but the sticky situation is just borderline insane and one that I could not handle.
Well, at least it wasn’t a complete waste as Frick N’ Frack was as amazing as it has always been. It’s just too bad that I had to find out the hard way that even the formula of ColourPop’s Ultra Satin Liquid Lips wasn’t all consistent, just like the matte ones. And I had such high hopes for these. Damn, what a shame!
