‘Everything You Want Me to Be’ Broke My Heart

At long last, I have managed to get out of my lazy streak and finally finished another book! It wasn’t easy, though, and I really had to push myself—the reason why it took me 2 full weeks to actually finish the damn thing.

Everything You Want Me to Be, according to Goodreads, is one of the best books of 2017—and I must say, I agree a hundred percent.

Well, granted, I haven’t read a lot of books this year, let alone ones that were actually published this year. But this is definitely (so far) one of the best books that I have read in the past two or three years.

I’m not going to write a review because I might just end up giving away too much information but I will say that this is one of the very few books that really stayed and held its ground on me even after that last page.

To be honest, although it was marketed as a psychological thriller, I didn’t think of it as such. Yes, it was a thriller since there was a murder involved and yes, it’s a little bit psychological because of Hattie’s sociopathic tendencies (or is she actually???) but the entire plot didn’t actually revolve around those two things.

It wasn’t like Gone Girl where it’s revealed towards the end how much of a crazy-ass bitch Amy truly was (or is). Now that is an actual psychological thriller.

This, this book is something else entirely. It was written in the POV of three people: Hattie, Peter, and Del and the unfolding of everything—every single secret, every single event was written and paced well. And the ending, well, I will say: it broke my heart into a million tiny pieces.

You have to read this, you just have to!
